Make Yourself At Home

In Make Yourself at Home, the gallery has been transformed into a multi room house dressed for a days living, with furniture and objects made by artists. Decorative, utilitarian, sensual, comforting, entertaining or convenient, the objects that surround us impact our daily lives in subtle and significant ways.
We are drawn to the idea that when an artist is forced to sacrifice freedoms and work within practical parameters the result can be an expansion of their creativity in surprising directions. The artists in this show have re-imagined and created objects in their own context – whether it be functional, literal, conceptual or practical.
By creating a more intimate and familiar space for looking at art, the exhibit places itself in competition with domestic life and therefore sets up a dialogue. Viewers are invited to sit at the kitchen table, watch TV from the couch, stretch out on the bed and literally make themselves at home.
